August 28, 2023Langley Federal Credit Union is donating $25,000 to the American Red Cross supporting relief efforts for recent disasters across multiple western states including the Hawaii wildfires and the aftermath of Tropical Storm Hilary.
- Vizo Financial Pledges $1 Million to Grants Program to Support CUs' Financial Education Initiatives
August 23, 2023In a nod to the credit union movement’s sixth cooperative principle of "concern for community," Vizo Financial will be reserving $1 million to provide financial empowerment grants for credit unions. The Vizo Financial Empowerment Grants Program will begin in September 2023 and includes a five-year plan to disperse funds to credit union foundations so that they can help natural person credit unions build financial literacy programs that not only benefit, but empower, their members and, ultimately, their communities.

August 14, 2023Credit Union Times has announced the finalists of its 2023 LUMINARIES Awards. Members of the program’s Class of 2023 are being recognized for the incredible and thoughtful ways they are driving the credit union industry forward.
- ValleyStar Credit Union Launches Scan Me, Win Me Car Giveaway
August 11, 2023ValleyStar announces the launch of their ValleyStar 300 “Scan Me, Win Me” car giveaway, with a grand prize of a 2023 Toyota Camry.
Virginia residents who are 18 years of age or older can enter the contest by finding the car, scanning the QR code, and submitting an entry form. The contest runs until September 17, 2023. Three finalists will be randomly selected to receive suite tickets and join ValleyStar at Martinsville Speedway for the ValleyStar 300 on September 23, 2023. On race day, all three finalists will receive a car key, but only one key will open the car. The finalist with the real car key wins the car.
- Richmond-Area Golf Tournament Raises $8,000 for VACUPAC
August 1, 2023Henrico Federal Credit Union, Richmond-area credit unions and credit union business partners presented an $8,000 check to VACUPAC this week to support Virginia credit unions' advocacy work. Henrico FCU hosts and coordinates the annual Bill Dawson VACUPAC Golf Tournament in support of the Virginia Credit Union Political Action Committee (VACUPAC), the political action committee for Virginia-based credit unions. The tournament is named in honor of the late Bill Dawson, a longtime volunteer on the Henrico FCU board of directors and a champion for state credit unions' advocacy work, including political fundraising.
- Vizo Financial Raises $12,000 for 10th Anniversary Hot Dog Eating Contest
August 1, 2023It was a true Decade of Dogs celebration at Vizo Financial’s 10th Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest, which raised a total of $12,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital. This year’s 10th-anniversary contest took place on July 19, 2023, and had 26 sponsors, nine contestants and three prizes.
- BayPort Foundation Gives $25,000 to Fund Summer Programming at Local Boys & Girls Clubs
July 26, 2023The BayPort Foundation has donated $25,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula (BGCVP) in support of their ongoing Summer Enrichment Campaign. The campaign, which runs through August 25, aims to provide a summer full of opportunities to at least 300 local youth. Funds raised will go toward more enriching summer programs through field trips, career exploration, arts, STEM, sports, and more. Most importantly, the funds will ensure that no child misses out on the chance to attend a Club for the summer.
- Peoples Advantage, RRHA Are Making Homeownership A Reality For All
July 26, 2023Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union is partnering with Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) for a unique twist on comprehensive homeownership in Richmond, Virginia. Peoples Advantage’s Affordable Homeownership Program qualifies residents in Richmond and Petersburg with a credit score as low as 580 within the Community Development Financial Institution tract.
