League, CUs Meet with Sen. Warner, Offices of Other Lawmakers as ‘Hike The Hill’ Efforts Continue
We appreciated the opportunity to meet in Washington on Tuesday with Sen. Mark Warner. There are a host of issues of keen interest to credit unions on the Congressional agenda for the remainder of this year, including our ongoing battle against interchange legislation, funding the federal government, measures related to the CFPB, and legislation that would provide new flexibility for federal credit union board meetings. |
Credit unions and the League met with Sen. Mark Warner on Tuesday in Washington to champion credit unions' policy priorities. |
Tuesday was another busy day on Capitol Hill for the League advocacy team and member credit unions. Credit union advocates met with Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) and the offices of Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), Rep. Bobby Scott (D-3rd), Rep. Jennifer McClellan (D-4th) and Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11th). |
We also met Monday with the offices of Reps. Rob Wittman (R-1st), Jennifer Kiggans (R-2nd) and Don Beyer (D-8th), meaning we have met with every member of our Congressional delegation or key staff during our summer Legislative Receptions or through meetings this week in Washington. |

This week saw an industrywide effort in Washington as we joined with NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus and other leagues to Hike The Hill, in preparation for a busy few months as Congress wrestles with key appropriations bills and a tight Sept. 30 deadline to avoid a government shutdown.

"Following an incredibly successful series of district-level legislative meetings this summer, we've now turned our attention to Washington," said League Chief Advocacy Officer JT Blau. "With Congress back in session, credit unions will need to remain engaged on our key issues, given that issues like interchange could be considered at any time.
“Recent events in Washington and Congress’s full agenda only add to our potential challenges, but your League remains focused on pushing our policy priorities and ensuring credit unions have the tools they need to serve their members and communities,” said Blau.
