Kiggans to Challenge Luria in Expected Close 2nd District Race

Authored By: Lewis Wood on 6/22/2022

Republicans in coastal Virginia chose state Sen. Jen Kiggans, R-Virginia Beach, on Tuesday as their nominee against Rep. Elaine Luria, D-2nd, in what could be one of the country’s most competitive fall congressional races. Two candidates supported by the League and the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) also won primary battles with Democrat Rep. Don Beyer winning handily in the 8th and Republican Rep. Ben Cline breezing to a win in the 6th.

Kiggans, a former Navy helicopter pilot and geriatric nurse practitioner, will face Luria, a former Naval officer who has held the seat for four years.

Your League and CULAC supported the following candidates this election cycle:

  • Rep. Elaine Luria (D-2nd)
  • Rep. Don McEachin (D-4th)
  • Rep. Ben Cline (R-6th)
  • Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-8th)
  • Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-10th)
  • Rep. Gerald Connolly (D-11th)

CULAC is the federal PAC of the Credit Union National Association, which is supported by contributions from the Virginia League's Virginia Credit Union Political Action Committee (VACUPAC).
