As House Readies for Election of New Speaker, CUs Urged to Maintain Efforts to Fight Interchange Bill

As the U.S. House of Representatives readies to select a new Speaker, your League is urging credit unions to maintain communications with lawmakers on the Credit Card Competition Act (interchange legislation).

“Now is an opportune time to reach lawmakers given that business is stalled in the House,” noted League Chief Advocacy Officer JT Blau. “We remain vigilant against efforts to advance the credit union-opposed legislation via one of the must-pass spending measures, or perhaps some other measure like the Senate’s SAFER Banking Act.”

Congress continues to face pressure to fund the government for the coming fiscal year. The Continuing Resolution passed last weekend allowed Congress to avert a shutdown of the federal government, but that CR will only carry the government through Nov. 17.
