Charlottesville, VA, September 7, 2021: Recreation facilities are important for a healthy and vibrant community. That is why UVA Community Credit Union is proud to partner with the Culpeper Wellness Foundation.

The credit union is financing a new facility to benefit the area’s residents, while the foundation continues to actively accept donations for its capital campaign.

“As a not-for-profit member-owned cooperative, UVA Community Credit Union understands the importance of a strong community. Founded in 1954, we have been helping families and local businesses improve their financial well-being, which is why we are so pleased to work with the Culpeper Wellness Foundation to bring this meaningful recreation center to the residents of Culpeper,” says Alison DeTuncq, president/CEO of UVA Community Credit Union.

The 17,759 square foot facility is being built on the site of the foundation’s new office at Crossroad Parkway. It will feature two full-size basketball courts, which will also have the capability to host indoor volleyball, pickleball, and tennis. Two multipurpose batting cages with artificial turf surfaces, which will be retractable from the ceiling to help maximize space, will give users the ability to run baseball, softball, tennis, lacrosse, and field hockey drills, among others.

"Over the past several months it's been my good fortune to collaborate with many individuals and organizations who share the foundation's vision for creating a facility for our community to exercise, play, learn, and build friendships. In bringing this project to completion, many bridges have to be crossed and one of the most critical is project funding. On behalf of the foundation board, I am grateful to UVA Community Credit Union for their understanding of the importance of this facility to our community and helping to bridge the gap as our capital campaign gathers support," says Shari Landry, president of Culpeper Wellness Foundation.

Groundbreaking took place in August and the center is expected to open its doors to the community in 2022. For more information about the Culpeper Wellness Foundation and ways to give to the capital campaign please visit culpeperwellnessfoundation.org.
