Richmond Heritage FCU's Randy Cooper, League Recognized in General Assembly for Scholarship Supporting African-American Credit Union Leaders

Members of the Virginia House of Delegates honored the African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) and the Virginia Credit Union League Feb. 18 for partnering on the Lynette Smith Scholarship that benefits a Virginia-based African-American credit union professional or official.

Last year, Richmond Heritage Federal Credit Union CEO Randy Cooper was the recipient of the inaugural Virginia Credit Union League Lynette Smith Scholarship, which allows the recipient to attend the African-American Credit Union Coalition’s Annual Conference at no charge.

The scholarship was established in honor of TruEnergy Federal Credit Union President/CEO Lynette Smith, a tireless credit union advocate and a champion for the credit union movement at both the state and national levels. She is a past chairwoman of the AACUC.

“We’re proud to support the mission and the good work of the African-American Credit Union Coalition. Through the Lynette Smith Scholarship, we’re helping a dedicated credit union professional or official pursue education, training and networking opportunities that will help them grow as a leader for their credit union and for the movement,” said Virginia Credit Union League President Rick Pillow.

“We also salute the hard work of our 2019 scholarship recipient Randy Cooper, who is a passionate believer in credit unions’ ‘People Helping People’ philosophy,” said Pillow. “He and the Richmond Heritage staff are committed to creating financial opportunity and fostering financial stability for their members. They also carry on a proud tradition of service to the community.”

The Virginia Credit Union League funds the Lynette Smith Scholarship annually, with the AACUC soliciting applications for the scholarship and selecting the scholarship recipient.
