Norfolk, VA (November 22, 2022) – Thousands of runners participated in the Chartway Norfolk Harbor Race Weekend where Chartway Credit Union served as the Title Sponsor over the weekend and surprised two local children facing medical hardship – 12-year-old Caelum and 4-year-old Caiden – with the news that their wishes had come true thanks to funds from Chartway’ s charitable arm, the Chartway Promise Foundation.
The weekend kicked off on Friday, November 18, at the Expo, which was followed by the 5K and Kids Mile on Saturday and the 10K and Half Marathon on Sunday. Participants enjoyed post-race parties with music, food, and fun at Town Point Park both Saturday and Sunday – and joined in on a Wish Reveal for a special child each morning. On Saturday, Caelum discovered he would go on the ultimate shopping spree; and, on Sunday, Caiden found out his Wish to visit Walt Disney World would come true. Both Wishes were granted with funds provided by the Chartway Promise Foundation to Toby’s Dream Foundation.
The credit union also provided custom running chairs for Team Hoyt Virginia Beach, and several leaders and team members ran in the races, including Chartway’s president & CEO, Brian Schools, Chartway’s senior vice president of marketing, Elizabeth Short, Chartway’s vice president of community commitment, Phil Richards, and many more.
Christine Wilson, president of the Chartway Promise Foundation, said “Our partnership with J&A Racing helps make it possible for us to grant wishes and make dreams come true for children and families when they need it the most – as we did this past weekend for Caelum and Caiden through our long-standing partnership with Toby’s Dream Foundation.”
Brian Schools, Chartway’s president & CEO added, “Because we value community, we were honored to be the Title Sponsor for the weekend’s events. I really appreciate all the support the J&A Racing team has given us over the years.”
Co-race director, Jerry Frostick shared, “We are honored for our partnership with Chartway, and to support the Chartway Promise Foundation in providing life-changing experiences for kids facing medical hardship.”
Since 1999, Chartway’s charitable arm – the Chartway Promise Foundation – has raised nearly $14 million to bring joy, hope, and smiles to children facing medical hardship or illness. To learn more or make a donation, visit www.ChartwayPromiseFoundation.org.
