Virginia Beach, VA (November 26, 2019) – Chartway Federal Credit Union has an unwavering dedication to upholding its commitment to strengthening the communities it serves. That’s why the Hampton Roads-based credit union was honored to encourage local runners to lace up and make a difference within the community to help provide life-changing experiences that bring joy, hope, and smiles to children facing medical hardship or illness.

The Chartway Norfolk Harbor Half Marathon, 10K, and We Promise Foundation 5K, took place November 22 – 24, 2019, in Norfolk, VA. For the past five years, the race weekend has been presented by Chartway Federal Credit Union in partnership with J&A Racing. Out of the five years that the two partners have worked together, this is the third year Chartway has served as the Title Sponsor. The credit union’s charitable arm, the We Promise Foundation, also served as the premier charity of the event – receiving a $1 donation per registered runner from the J&A Racing Foundation.

To make the holiday event even jollier, the We Promise Foundation partnered with Toby’s Dream Foundation to grant a wish to a local 13-year-old boy, Koby. Koby, who reacted to the surprise wish grant with a huge smile, will be traveling to the Hot Wheels Design Center in El Segundo, CA, in January, where he will tour the factory and design his very own Hot Wheels car. Koby is currently undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma, and his wish trip will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience full of rest, relaxation, and timeless memories.

“Our relationship with Chartway and it’s We Promise Foundation has grown into an outstanding community partnership. It is refreshing to find a local company and nonprofit that shares our same passion for making a positive difference and giving back,” said Jerry Frostick, owner of J&A Racing. “The Chartway Norfolk Harbor Half Weekend is the perfect combination of celebrating things that we are thankful for, giving back to the community, and kicking off the holiday season.”

“We’re honored to partner with J&A Racing to present this event for our community to enjoy,” said Brian Schools, president & CEO of Chartway Federal Credit Union. “We have a strong commitment to serving our members and strengthening the communities we serve through partnerships, sponsorships, and our We Promise Foundation. Partnering with Toby’s Dream Foundation to grant a wish made the weekend pretty special.”
