Virginia  Beach, VA, January 8, 2020: In October 1970, Nixon was president, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was 838, America’s involvement in Vietnam was in its fifth year and a gallon of gas cost $.36. It was also when Virginia Beach City Council unanimously voted to support a credit union as an additional benefit of employment. Virginia Beach Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union, as we were originally known, was founded to give municipal employees, retirees, volunteers and their families a safe place to save and borrow money.

From modest beginnings in a broom closet on the third floor of Building 1 at the Municipal Center, we’ve grown to more than $120 million in assets and over 11,000 members. With our help, our members have built homes, financed college educations and realized their financial success.

This year, we proudly celebrate our 50th anniversary. We realize our success can be attributed to the combination of loyalty and dedication shown by our membership, volunteers, and staff. We will be commemorating this milestone throughout 2020 in various ways, such as performing 50 Acts of Kindness and hosting several anniversary events.

Visit our website to learn more about our humble roots and see a video of our history.

We hope you will join us for the celebration and for many years to come.
