WEST POINT, VIRGINIA – Baylands Family Credit Union is no stranger to giving back to communities and families near and far. This year the local not-for-profit is looking to make a positive impact on both international and local communities. In early 2021, staff and management met to determine causes staff were passionate about and ways the credit union could be an ally to various groups to partner on projects focused on community impact.

The credit union then committed to allotting time throughout the year for staff to work together and complete community impact projects. One of the first community impact projects of 2021 is “Hope Hygiene Kits” for Haiti.

On Wednesday, April 7th, in honor of National Volunteer Month all staff at branches or in small department teams will be hard at work putting simple hygiene kits together. Supplies for the kits were made possible thanks to a contribution from project partner Heart Ministries based in West Point, VA. The kits are being donated to Marnelle Fanfan Enterprise, a local Chesterfield charity that will be distributing the kits to various schools in Jacmel, Haiti.

“Baylands has always believed in giving back any way we can to make a positive impact on others in need, and this is another way to do just that. Good hygiene is an important part of a young child’s health, wellness, and self-esteem and these kits will help children in Haiti who might not have access to essential supplies for everyday life.” Teresa Millis, President/CEO of Baylands FCU said.

Baylands Family Credit Union, based in West Point, Virginia was founded in 1946 and remains committed to providing outstanding service to its members. The credit union currently operates four branch locations and is part of the Co-Op Financial Services Network of credit unions. Membership is open to individuals who live, work, worship or attend school in the following (9) counties: Chesterfield, James City, New Kent, King William, King & Queen, Middlesex, Essex, Gloucester and Mathews. Additionally, immediate family members of existing members also qualify.
