League Represents CUs on Two General Assembly Study Groups

Authored By: Lewis Wood on 7/10/2019

Your League’s David Miles is participating in two stakeholder study groups established by the state Senate and House Transportation Committees. Both study groups are being led by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Lawmakers have charged one of the study groups with reviewing mechanics’/storage liens and abandoned vehicles, specifically the processes and paperwork associated with these.

The other is studying next-generation ridesharing services and peer-to-peer vehicle rental. While the more established companies such as Uber and Lyft dominate headlines about Transportation Network Companies, there are a host of businesses that are offering their own twist on ridesharing, carpooling and peer-to-peer “car rental.” These new platforms are forcing states to examine laws associated with vehicle registration, insurance and consumer protection.
