League Reps Meet With Gov. Youngkin, Attorney General Miyares, Lawmakers
Your League’s Governmental Affairs team has been hard at work today keeping credit unions top-of-mind for our state lawmakers and executives.
This morning credit union leaders from Langley Federal Credit Union joined the League’s Governmental Affairs team at a breakfast event featuring Delegate Amanda Batten (R-96th) and Gov. Glenn Youngkin (photo below). Del. Batten is a strong advocate for credit unions in the House of Delegates and is a credit union member herself. Gov. Youngkin spoke to attendees about the state budget, prospects for the upcoming election, and economic trends in Virginia.
This afternoon, the League met with Gov. Youngkin at a lunch event, discussing credit unions, our work to serve members, and ways CUs can expand services to their communities.
Finally, the League met with Attorney General Jason Miyares at a roundtable discussion event late this afternoon, providing us the opportunity to discuss the ESG legislation making its way through other state legislatures, fraud and scams targeting elderly members, staffing challenges, and a number of other issues.
Today has been an eventful day in state politics, with the Virginia General Assembly in special session to consider the state budget. The budget passed the General Assembly yesterday and now heads to Gov. Youngkin’s desk for his signature. Your League remains actively engaged with both lawmakers and the Youngkin Administration on credit union issues as we prepare for a historic election and the 2024 General Assembly session.
