Roanoke, VA, August 21, 2020 – The Credit Unions Care Foundation of Virginia, representing credit unions in the greater Roanoke area, presented a check to the American Red Cross in the amount of $5,000 to aid in the American Red Cross mission to "prevent and alleviate human suffering."
The Foundation asked that the monies be used where the biggest need is, whether a blood services vehicle or another area of our local Red Cross chapter.
Cliff DeMars was present, on behalf of the Credit Unions Care Foundation of Virginia, to say a few words and deliver the check. DeMars shared, “I have learned about many facets of the American Red Cross - disasters, training, veterans, fires, blood. What you do is amazing, and the fact you do it with 90% volunteers – is incredible. The Foundation is able to make this donation due to support of all credit unions in the Roanoke Valley…know that we share common goals.”
Jackie Grant, Executive Director of the Southwest Chapter of the American Red Cross accepted the check and offered “We are so thankful for this donation, it’s amazing and it’s going to make an impact in our community whether it’s a blood vehicle, blood scales, disaster relief, or home fires we’re experiencing.”
Like credit unions, volunteers are a defining component of the American Red Cross. In fact, 90% of the Red Cross workforce is volunteer. There’s always a need for blood and volunteers.
