Jill Edsall, Director of Learning and Talent Development at Chartway Credit Union, has been recognized with the Virginia Credit Union League's 2023 Eugene H. "Gene" Farley Jr. Award of Excellence.
The award is given annually to a credit union professional or volunteer official in recognition of his or her outstanding contributions to an individual credit union or to the credit union movement. In particular, the award seeks to recognize achievements that exemplify credit unions’ ‘People Helping People’ philosophy. It is named in honor of the late-Gene Farley, who served the League and Virginia’s credit unions for more than 40 years.
"We are proud to salute Jill's phenomenal work in service to her credit union and the industry," said Virginia Credit Union League President/CEO Carrie Hunt. "Her contributions in time, talent and expertise demonstrate the very best in leadership and service."
Edsall is a 12-year employee of the credit union with a broad array of accomplishments within the credit union industry, at Chartway and its charitable foundation, and within her community.
"What I've learned about the credit union industry is that our purpose-driven philosophy resonates so deeply with individuals who possess a passion for making a difference in the lives of others," said Edsall. "I appreciate the privilege to be a part of this incredible movement where our aligned purpose and passion are harnessed to create meaningful change, leaving a lasting mark in the lives of our members and the communities we serve."
She exhibits a passion for the "Credit Union Difference" and many of her most significant accomplishments are directly related to enhancing Chartway’s ability to promote financial well-being for all.
Most recently, she led the successful implementation of the Credit Union National Association’s FiCEP Certification at Chartway, with 23 team members earning their Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor designation in 2022 and 25 enrolled for the first program cohort of 2023. She was also selected for Filene’s i3leadership program, one of the industry’s most successful initiatives in finding solutions to the toughest issues facing credit unions.
A dedicated trainer and professional development practitioner, her passion for helping those around her achieve their career goals has led her to involvement with the Virginia League’s Emerging Professionals Network and the Tidewater Chapter, a network of credit unions in Greater Hampton Roads. She was also instrumental in the development at her credit union of an internship program that introduces students to the credit union industry as a top career choice.
She also recently served as chair of Chartway’s Community Action Engagement Team, helping lead an effort to develop the Helping Hands Fund, designed to help Chartway employees aid their fellow team members during tough financial times. To date, more than 100 team members have received help.
