Yorktown, Virginia / November 20, 2019 – 1st Advantage has been awarded the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility and Community Service Award, presented by the Credit Union National Association. As the first place winner on the state level, 1st Advantage is proud to now be nominated for the Dora Maxwell Award on a national level.

Through their commitment to the credit union philosophy of “people helping people,” 1st Advantage developed their annual day of giving, 1st AIDE (Assistance, Inspiration, Dedication and Experience) Day over 11 years ago. The accomplishments of 1st AIDE Day were specifically recognized as an outstanding demonstration of the ideals of credit unions everywhere.

A few of the many projects that the award-winning entry spotlighted included a donation of 1,200 pounds of food and $2,938 to the local food bank; a donation and wrapping of 450 gifts for children of military families; a collection of pet food and newspapers for the local pet shelter; picnic tables for Habitat for Humanity; and providing support to the local hospice for children.

Each year, with the guidance of local non-profits, several large projects are created and executed by colleagues, all of which fulfill an immediate need for the organizations. While donating monetarily to these organizations is wonderful, completing a large task for them or providing them with items that they need in order to fulfill the needs of the community takes a huge burden off of their shoulders as they continue to selflessly provide for our neighbors.

1st Advantage is honored to be recognized with the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility and Community Service Award, and is privileged to have the opportunity to continue serving our members and neighbors.
