League Meets with Candidate Running for House Seat in 62nd District

Carrie Coyner met Wednesday with Southside credit unions to learn more about who is providing financial services in the area and what credit union issues are.

The League arranged the meet and greet luncheon, and Fort Lee FCU hosted the event.

The current delegate in the 62nd District is the GOP’s Riley Ingram, who is not seeking re-election. Coyner is the Republican candidate for the spot. Democrat Lindsey  Dougherty is running the seat in the heavily GOP district.

League President Rick Pillow noted that Coyner, who serves on her local school board, is very involved in financial literacy and appreciated hearing about credit union efforts in that area. Coyner also reported that the first loan she took out, for a car, came from a credit union.

Pillow characterized the meeting as a “good start” in building a relationship with the candidate who most likely will win in November.

Those also attending the meeting were: Sarah Marks and Patsy Stuard (both from Fort Lee Federal Credit Union); Amanda Habansky (Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union); CeJae Vtipilson (Virginia League); Carol Lee Smith (Vantage Point Federal Credit Union); Patsy Moss Smith (Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union); Katrina Hayes Peerman (VSU FCU) and Jamie Asciolla (Argent Credit Union).

NOTE: League staff are busy this week attending the retreat hosted by the House and Senate Democrats. Previously League staff participated in retreats offered by the Republican Senate and the House Republican caucuses.
