"We are saddened to hear of the passing of Rep. Don McEachin, a respected voice and dedicated champion for the Richmond area and south Central Virginia. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and colleagues. Credit unions and the League worked closely with Rep. McEachin for decades during his service in the Virginia General Assembly and Congress," said Virginia Credit Union League President/CEO Carrie Hunt. "He was a vocal advocate for the underserved, and he praised credit unions for our work to serve these vulnerable communities. We are grateful for the Congressman's many years of support for Virginia's credit unions."

League’s Advocacy Work Hits High Gear as We Ready for New Congress, General Assembly

Your League is gearing up for a busy few weeks on the political front at both the state and federal levels. Today, your League’s JT Blau attended a luncheon with Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears. We’ll also soon meet with Gov. Glenn Youngkin. During December and early January, we’ll host or attend more than a dozen meetings or political fundraisers for lawmakers and elected officials, some of which will be hosted at the Credit Union House of Virginia.

At the federal level, we’re monitoring the lame-duck session with keen interest. As you know, there are a handful of issues that would impact credit unions, including measures covering cannabis banking, third-party examination authority for NCUA, interchange, and expanded access to underserved areas for federal charters. We remain engaged with our Congressional delegation on all these issues.
