State Senate Committee Passes CUs' Virtual Currency Custody Services Bill
The state Senate Commerce and Labor Committee today unanimously passed a substitute version of HB1727, credit unions’ virtual currency custody services bill. The bill moves to the Senate floor for consideration.
“We’re pleased that our bill continues to enjoy such strong support among lawmakers and we’re grateful to Del. Chris Head for carrying the bill,” said League President/CEO Carrie Hunt. “That support for our bill is the direct result of our advocacy efforts prior to the session and the good work of member credit unions on Credit Union Day. We continue to engage with lawmakers to ensure our bill’s final passage and enactment.”
As Election Day for 4th Congressional District Seat Nears, CUs, League Meet with McClellan
Representatives from eight credit unions joined the League last Friday on a call with state Sen. Jennifer McClellan, the favorite in the race to win Virginia’s 4th Congressional District seat. Voters go to the polls next Tuesday (Feb. 21) to decide the race between McClellan and Republican Leon Benjamin.
“This was an opportunity for credit unions to share the ‘Credit Union Difference’ with the senator and showcase their good work in serving credit union members in the 4th Congressional District,” said Chief Advocacy Officer JT Blau. “We were also pleased to hear that the senator remains a committed champion of Community Development Financial Institutions, a priority for your League.”
