League Hosts Member Call-In on Advocacy Issues, Services; Archived Video Available!

Your League hosted a Member Call-In and Open Dialogue today with League President/CEO Carrie Hunt and Chief Advocacy Officer JT Blau outlining the regulatory and legislative issues we’re monitoring at both the state and federal levels. Topics include CFPB regulatory initiatives; privacy and interchange legislation at the federal level; our 2023 General Assembly session agenda; special elections for Virginia’s 4th District Congressional seat and 7th District state Senate seat; and Jan. 19’s Credit Union Day at the General Assembly.

CU Day at the General Assembly: Our Premier State-Level Advocacy Event Returns Jan. 19!

Credit Union Day at the Virginia General Assembly returns Jan. 19 and we need you in Richmond! We're looking for at least 200 credit union champions to join us as we educate state lawmakers about the "Credit Union Difference" and fight for credit union-backed legislation.

NCUA Board Meets Dec. 15: Budget, NCUSIF Operating Level & More on Agenda

The NCUA board will meet Thursday to finalize its 2023-24 budget, review the normal operating level (NOL) for the Share Insurance Fund (SIF) for 2023, and propose a rule related to financial innovation.

Your League will be watching the meeting closely, having actively engaged in the budget comment process and being keenly interested in seeing NCUA returning the NOL to its historic level of 1.3%. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. A livestream will be available on the agency’s website.

League's Hunt to Serve as CUNA Examination & Supervision Subcommittee Vice Chair; Named to Board of Statewide Financial Education Organization

League President/CEO Carrie Hunt has been named Vice Chair of the CUNA Advocacy Committee’s Examination & Supervision Subcommittee, and also recently joined the board of the Virginia Council of Economic Education, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing Virginia’s K-12 students with the knowledge and personal finance skills necessary to succeed in today’s dynamic economy.

VACUPAC Accounting Year Closing Dec. 19

We’re in the homestretch for collecting Virginia Credit Union Political Action Committee (VACUPAC) contributions for 2022. We ask that you submit your contributions by close-of-business on Dec. 19, as a mid-December deadline aids our accounting and PAC management efforts. Biden's Student-Loan Relief Plan Gets Expanded Review from Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court expanded a planned showdown over President Biden's student-loan relief plan, saying it will hear arguments from two borrowers who contend they are being unfairly excluded from the full scope of the program. The court was already set to hear arguments early next year from six Republican-led states that say the president lacked authority to issue the sweeping plan.
