CUNA, NAFCU Merger Announcement: League President/CEO Carrie Hunt Offers Perspective on Potential Impact
With the news earlier this week that the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and the National Association of Federally Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU) intend to merge, League President/CEO Carrie Hunt offered her perspective on the potential impact on Virginia’s credit unions.
“I support this merger, knowing that ultimately the 104 credit unions in Virginia will decide whether the merger makes sense for their credit union and their millions of members. Should CUNA and NAFCU member credit unions approve the merger, your League will look forward to leveraging the talent, products and services of this new organization,” said Hunt.
Legislative Reception Aug. 8 in Harrisonburg; Roanoke, Richmond, NoVA Later This Month
Your League and credit unions will host a series of legislative receptions across the Commonwealth, including an event next week (Aug. 8) in Harrisonburg with Congressman Ben Cline and various state lawmakers! Join us in advocating for your credit union and the Virginia credit union system at this event or an event in your area.

League Offers Scholarships to Attend Upcoming Small CU Conferences in Pennsylvania, Alabama
Your League is joining CUNA and other Leagues to host two regional conferences for small credit unions – Aug. 27-29 (Philadelphia, PA) and Sept. 10-12 (Hunstsville, AL). Geared toward management and board members, these low-cost events will focus on how smaller credit unions can strengthen their operations and remain competitive long into the future. These conferences will prove most beneficial for credit unions with less than $120 million in assets. Your League is offering scholarships for these events to qualifying credit unions. IMPORTANT NOTES: The Alabama event is full, but if you registered for the event, you’re still eligible to apply for a League scholarship. Hotel reservation deadline is Aug. 10 for both events.
