CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union (CommonWealth One) received two first-place awards from the Virginia Credit Union League (VACUL) for the impact the credit union is making in the community.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award was presented to CommonWealth One for its The Big Giver campaign which enlisted credit union members to nominate a charity, not-for-profit organization, or community interest project that they felt deserved a $10,000 donation. The Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award was presented to CommonWealth One for its “For Youth – For Life: Education and Engagement” programs, which provide financial education to youth in the community.

“We are honored to receive these awards from the Virginia Credit Union League,” said Karyle Thornton, Chief Marketing Officer of CommonWealth One. “These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our members and employees, who are committed to making a difference in the lives of the communities we serve.”

CommonWealth One's Big Giver campaign is an effort to raise awareness, recognition, and financial support for local charities. The “For Youth – For Life: Education and Engagement” programs provide financial education to youth in the community through programs, including seminars, financial simulation activities, online resources, Youth Saturdays, and financial counseling.
