$10,000 Grant Awarded to Hampton Roads Educators CU for Upgraded Features to Digital and Convenience Services

HAMPTON, VIRGINIA (October 13, 2023) – Hampton Roads Educators Credit Union, Inc. (HRECU) was awarded a $10,000 grant to implement additional features to improve the member’s online experience. The grant will fund the technical upgrade of the credit union’s ability to perform Video/Chat Banking with members via the credit union website. In addition, the grant will fund an ATM Deposit Processing Software that will allow an automated release of deposits to members when the credit union is closed on holidays, after hours or on weekends. The grant is one of $3.1 million awarded by The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) to 142 low-income and minority depository institutions.

“These features will ensure that Hampton Roads Educators remains competitive in the market and that we ensure doing business with us is a convenient and positive experience for our members,” stated HRECU CEO Karen Orie.

The upgrades will become available to members by the first of the year. The NCUA is the governing body of credit unions. This year the NCUA awarded grants ranging from $1,000 to $50,000 to credit unions in 40 states and the District of Columbia.
